The “dark night of the soul” is a stage in personal development when a person undergoes a difficult and significant transition to a deeper perception of life and their place in it. This is usually accompanied by painful shedding of identity, relationship, career, habit or belief system that previously allowed them to construct meaning in life. Many are experiencing it RIGHT NOW.
Naropa prepared me for this. Training on the Dark Night was part of my spiritual counseling program because it is often misdiagnosed as depression or other mental illnesses.
To the trained eye in the spiritual psychology field, the Dark Night jump starts a powerful reunion with the spiritual self. Through much despair, we have the opportunity to clear anything that we have overidentified with, that may had led us from our spiritual purpose on Earth.
